Councillor Tara Wheeler
Tara grew up in the picturesque town of Hope, BC. She has always enjoyed nature and a more laid back pace so when she heard of an opportunity to head north to work she took it. She started her Yukon life by working at Penny’s Place in Pelly Crossing and became fascinated by the Yukon. After spending a gloomy, wet winter in the Fraser Valley Tara decided to make the Yukon her new home. She travelled North once again with her car and her cat in 2002 and has been here ever since. She moved to Carmacks that fall and fell in love with the community’s rich heritage and First Nations history.
Tara is a mother to two children and spends her days helping care for other Carmack’s children at the daycare. She has a soft heart for animals and has more than a few pets at home.
She was first elected to council in 2009 and is a role she truly enjoys and often spends her free time reading the municipal act or looking up bylaws from similar communities for comparison.
