Existing as a rest stop even before the Klondike Gold Rush, Carmacks became incorporated as a village on November 1, 1984.

The community has been very stable, with a population hovering around 450.

Our attractions include great fishing, several agate trails leading to gemstones and geodes, a 1.5 kilometer boardwalk, and a number of historic artifacts.
